Subrosa pro rider Hoang Tran has been on the team before there was a team. Since the inception of Hoang’s Villicus line, his frame has gone through many variations, this is it’s 4th version, and it’s always progressing. With the arrival of the Subrosa Villicus Prime II in stores world wide this week we want to walk you through Hoang’s current set up, and some of the small revisions that make this one of my favorite frames we have ever produced.
Introducing Hoang Tran’s Suborsa Villicus Prime II.
Hoang loved the direction that the Villicus Prime was heading from previous Villicus models. Specs like the 75? headtube angle, 69? seat tube angle, and a taller, 8.75″ standover height all stayed the same. Hoang wanted to shorten up his bike, so we shortened the rear end to 13.5″/13.25″ when the wheel is fully slammed.
We added a new custom, investment cast Subrosa seat stay bridge. This piece is so solid. It’s big in diameter as well so it welds nicely to the seat stays and will reduce rear end flex while looking killer. It also has S.F.F.S. along the bottom of it.
The Dropouts are still 6mm thick, and include built in chain tensioners, but they are now lazer cut and solid, to add strength, and reduce cost a touch. Also the chain stays are flattened at the dropouts to ensure that all hubgaurds will fit into the frame.
The graphics make up some of my favorite Villicus decals yet. With metalic flake in both the Gold and Silver versions, these look so good. As everything Villicus, it’s got Hoang’s Anchor icon badge of approval brazed onto the frame.
